In 2021 I uploaded an article about the modern place names of Washington as decided in 1966/67. I was able to find out the origin of them all apart from the Emerson estate, then developed as an office block, but how a housing area. However I've come across an edition of the Weashington Chronicle from 1971 that listed the orgin of the names of the employment area. It state Emerson was named after William Emerson 1701 to 1782, a prominant mathamatican from Huworth, near Darlington- see William Emerson (mathematician) - Wikipedia
