Bryan Ferry born 1945

Bryan was born in Washington Station, the son of Mary Ann and Frederick Charles Ferry- a farm labourer who also looked after pit ponies at the Glebe Colliery. He attended the Glebe School and Washington Grammar-Technical School from 1957, where he took to the stage in school performances.

He studied fine art at Newcastle University from 1964 until 1968, under noted pop artist, Richard Hamilton. He was a member of a number a bands and started teaching when he formed Roxy Music in 1970, enjoying huge success in the next 13 years, when he also performed as a solo artist. Since then the band has separated and reformed a number of times.

He was awarded a CBE in 2011.

Bryan has married twice, Lucy Helmore (1982 to 2003) and  Amanda Sheppard (2013 to 2014)
