Modern Place Names of Washington

Just published is the story how Washington Development Corporation named the residential villages, employment areas and major open spaces in Washington. The origin of all but of the areas is known, but the History Society cannot find who Emerson was, the area adjoing the A1(M). It was a commercial site for hotels and the Government's Child Benefit Centre but the latter has been replaced by a housing estate.
